Specialist Academic Extension Program (Years 7-10)
PROGRAM DETAILS
The Specialist Academic Extension Program challenges students academically, builds self-esteem and leadership skills whilst preparing students for further education. This program aims to foster the academic and personal development of students within a caring environment, assisting them to explore their potential.
Students will engage in a variety of learning experiences including:
- High-level curriculum and extension beyond year level when relevant.
- Academic competitions, camps, excursions and leadership activities.
- Annual showcase events.
Specialist Academic Extension Program aims:
- To foster academic excellence and intellectual curiosity through challenging, high-quality learning experiences.
- To develop critical and creative thinking skills that empower students to become independent, reflective, and innovative learners.
- To provide opportunities for inquiry, personal interest, and real-world application, encouraging autonomy and deep engagement.
- To nurture leadership, collaboration, and civic responsibility, preparing students to make meaningful contributions within and beyond the college community.
- To promote equity and inclusivity in extension opportunities, ensuring diverse forms of talent are recognised and supported.
The Specialist Academic Extension Program has one intake each year at the end of the academic school year. Hammond Park Secondary College students in Years 7–9 may seek a teacher nomination to be considered for the program in the following year.
Families should note that a teacher nomination is not a formal application and does not guarantee that a student will be invited to join the Specialist AEP. Families will be contacted at the end of Term 4 if their child is invited to participate in the program.Participation in Specialist AEP classes is reviewed annually. Students may be invited to continue in the program at the end of each year based on their engagement, effort, attendance, and academic achievement.
*Please note that acceptance into this program will attract an additional cost, of which will be identified in your child's 'Fees and Charges' sheet, provided by the college, once your enrolment is complete.
**Students outside of the local intake area will only be considered if space is available as per the Department of Education Enrolment Policy.
